Dr Kian Tan

Mr. Kian Jin Tan, commonly known as K.J., is an experienced Breast, General Surgeon and Endoscopist. He completed his medical graduation from the prestigious University of Melbourne in the year 2002. Later, he underwent his surgical residency and specialized training at the Austin, Northern and Bendigo Hospitals, and became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2011. Furthermore, he received post-fellowship training in Breast and General Surgery at The Northern Hospital and St.Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. With a keen interest in all benign and malignant breast conditions, Mr. Tan is proficient in diagnosing and treating and mastalgia, breast-screen detected lesions, palpable breast lumps and patients with a strong family history of breast cancer. He is proficient in nipple and skin sparing mastectomies, level 1 oncoplastic breast surgeries, imaging guided excision of non-palpable lesions, and immediate breast reconstruction in conjunction with plastic surgery teams. Mr Tan has also earned accreditation from the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) in gastroscopy and colonoscopy. He extends his services to patients with general surgical issues such as positive FOBT, hernias, gallstones, skin lesions, carpal tunnel syndromes and vasectomies. Apart from his clinical practice, he is actively involved in surgical education, as a faculty member of the College of Surgeons’ Care of Critically Ill Surgical Patient (CCrISP) courses. He supervises surgical trainees and medical students and serves as a mentor and provides guidance for their professional development. To his credit, Mr.Tan is multilingual, fluent in Mandarin, Cantonese, Hokkien, Malay, and Indonesian, which allows him to communicate effectively with patients of diverse cultural backgrounds.
