Dr James Dimou is a highly skilled neurosurgeon with notable expertise in the clinical management and research of brain tumors. He is committed to providing individualized patient care that takes into account the latest scientific evidence. Dr Dimou completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne in 2003 and has since trained in Neurosurgery across multiple Australasian centers. He became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2017. Dr Dimou expanded his skills through a combined clinical and research fellowship in Surgical NeuroOncology at the Foothills Medical Centre in Canada, working under the auspices of the University of Calgary. He has also undergone additional observerships in Zurich, Switzerland, and Toronto, Canada. In 2016, he was awarded the COGNO Hubert Stuerzl Memorial Neuro-oncology Educational Award.
Dr Dimou is passionate about contributing to the neurosurgical research community. He obtained a PhD from the University of Melbourne in 2013, where his research focused on the molecular biology and therapeutic targeting of glioma stem cells. He has regularly published his research and acts as a reviewer for the World Neurosurgery journal and the Journal of Clinical Neuroscience. Dr Dimou currently holds public appointments as a Neurosurgeon at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Western Health. He is also a Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Melbourne.
Dr Dimou is a member of several prestigious groups, including the Neurosurgical Society of Australasia, European Association of Neurosurgical Societies, and the Society for Neuro-oncology. Additionally, he is fluent in Modern Greek and German.
