Dr Hermann Wittmer

Dr Hermann Wittmer is a highly experienced and accomplished cardiologist based in Bundaberg, Queensland, Australia. With a primary practice in Bundaberg, he has been providing exceptional cardiac care to patients in the region.

Dr. Wittmer obtained his MBBCh degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in 1981, and during his time as a medical officer in the army, he also achieved a diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene in 1984. Furthering his medical career, he completed his physician training in 1985 and was awarded FCP(SA) from Wits University in 1988. In the same year, he received the prestigious Jock Gear Award for his significant contributions to patient welfare, hospital, and department medicine at Wits University.

Under the guidance of Prof John Barlow, renowned for his work on Barlow Syndrome, Dr. Wittmer completed his specialised training in cardiology at Wits University. This comprehensive training allowed him to develop expertise in interventional, non-invasive, and clinical cardiology techniques. In 1991, he established his private practice in Johannesburg before relocating to Australia in 2009, joining GenesisCare (formerly Bundaberg Cardiology). In recognition of his achievements and skills, Dr. Wittmer was awarded FRACP in 2011.

Dr. Wittmer's current areas of interest lie in non-invasive cardiac imaging, heart failure management, invasive Cardiac Imaging (TOE), adult congenital heart disease, and general cardiology. He is particularly passionate about cardiac rehabilitation and currently serves as the Chairperson of the Cardiac Rehab program, HeartStart, in Bundaberg.

Dr. Wittmer is a dedicated professional who continuously seeks to improve patient outcomes and provide the highest quality of cardiac care. Outside of his medical career, he leads a fulfilling personal life. He is married to Glenda and has two children, Christina and Craig. All members of the family are naturalized Australians.
