Dr Heng-Chin Chiam

Dr Chiam is a highly experienced and accomplished general surgeon with a passion for delivering exceptional patient care. Born and raised in Singapore, he moved to Australia in 1989 to begin his medical education at the University of Queensland, graduating with honours in 1994. He completed his internship at Townsville General Hospital before undertaking specialist surgical training under the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons from 1998 to 2006. He attained Fellowship of the RACS in 2006, the year he began working as a Staff Specialist General Surgeon at Cairns Base Hospital. In 2008, Dr Chiam founded Cairns Surgical Care, where he has continued to provide outstanding surgical care to patients in both public and private settings. He is dedicated to staying up-to-date with the latest surgical techniques and approaches, and is committed to ongoing professional development.

Dr Chiam's areas of special interest cover a wide range of general surgical procedures, including gallbladder and biliary tract surgery (laparoscopic cholecystectomy and exploration of common bile duct), upper GI surgery (stomach, small intestine, spleen), breast surgery (including breast cancer), colorectal surgery (including bowel cancer), thyroid and parathyroid surgery, hernia repairs (laparoscopic and open, including inguinal, femoral, incisional, and ventral), skin cancer surgery, and miscellaneous procedures (such as haemorrhoids and pilonidal sinus). Throughout his career, Dr Chiam has earned a reputation for his exceptional surgical skills, his compassionate and respectful bedside manner, and his commitment to providing the highest level of care to each of his patients.
