Dr Heather Cooke is an accomplished cardiologist specialising in cardiac imaging with a passion for enhancing the patient experience. She obtained her degree from the University of Sydney and has been practicing as a registered specialist with FRACP since 2003.
After completing her general cardiology training in Queensland, Dr Cooke received two fellowships in cardiac imaging at the renowned Peter Munk Cardiac Centre in Toronto, Canada. Her first fellowship focused on advanced echocardiography, including contrast imaging, 3D echocardiography, and strain imaging. She has acquired remarkable experience with over 500 transoesophagal echocardiograms, specifically with 3D echocardiograph acquisition.
Her second fellowship concentrated on nuclear cardiology, where she gained proficiency in the interpretation and supervision of both technetium and thallium SPECT stress imaging for diagnosis and prognostic purposes in coronary artery disease (CAD) and guiding cardiac device placement therapy. Dr Cooke also received training in radionuclide angiography for the diagnosis of heart failure and its role in assisting with cardiac-replacement therapies.
Throughout her career, Dr Cooke has had extensive experience working with patients requiring advanced heart failure therapies, including left-ventricular assist devices and cardiac transplantation. She has encountered various cardiomyopathies, such as ischaemic, idiopathic, viral, chemotherapeutic, post-partum, familial, and genetic.
Dr Cooke joined Newcastle Heart with Dr Rohan Bhagwandeen in July 2015 and currently practices at Lake Macquarie Private Hospital in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. She is also a member of the American and Canadian Societies of Echocardiography.
Dr Cooke is dedicated to her work in cardiac imaging and is committed to providing the best possible care for her patients. She is currently accepting referrals and can be contacted for appointments.
