Dr. Ethan Nguyen is a highly skilled Ophthalmologist based in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Nguyen completed his undergraduate medical training at Monash University in Melbourne and furthered his training at Liverpool and Concord Hospitals before pursuing ophthalmology specialization. He successfully completed his Ophthalmology training through the esteemed Sydney Eye Hospital training network, which provided him with diverse experiences across metropolitan and rural placements in Sydney, greater New South Wales, Tasmania, and the Northern Territory.
After completing his general ophthalmology training, Dr. Nguyen chose to specialise in medical retina under the guidance of Professor Paul Mitchell at Westmead Hospital. Here, he gained expertise in managing complex macular and retinal disorders, particularly focusing on age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vascular occlusion. Dr. Nguyen also proficiently performed various types of retinal laser therapy and contributed to several international clinical trials, furthering the development of new therapies for wet macular degeneration, vein occlusion, and diabetic macular edema.
Building on his extensive experience in medical retina, Dr. Nguyen decided to pursue additional subspecialty training in the field of glaucoma. He received initial training at Royal Perth Hospital under the supervision of Professor Bill Morgan and then traveled to Kings College Hospital in London for a further 18 months of training. During this time, he acquired comprehensive skills in managing a wide range of complex medical and surgical glaucoma cases. Dr. Nguyen's dedication to the field was recognized when he was awarded the Medical and Dental Leadership Award for his exceptional support and contribution to training and supervising junior doctors.
Dr. Nguyen believes that retinal and glaucoma diseases often require lifelong management and commitment to therapy. Therefore, he adopts a patient-centered approach that focuses on educating patients about their condition and empowering them to take an active role in their healthcare decisions. This collaborative approach ultimately helps facilitate the best treatment outcomes for his patients.
