Dr Ed Danson

Dr Ed Danson is a highly qualified interventional cardiologist specialising in complex coronary interventions and aortic valve interventions. He has dedicated his career to treating patients suffering from heart-related illnesses. Dr Danson is widely known for his expertise in general cardiology, which encompasses the management of heart failure, valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, arrhythmias, and cardioembolic stroke. His area of specialty lies in coronary and structural interventions using catheter-based (non-surgical) approaches.

Dr Danson completed his medical education at Oxford University, where he also undertook a PhD in cardiac physiology. To further enhance his skills, he trained as a cardiologist at King's College Hospital in London and underwent subspecialty training in interventional cardiology in London and Sydney. Dr Danson has completed three international fellowships and a dedicated structural fellowship, which allowed him early exposure to some of the most novel and advanced treatments in the field.

Following his position as a consultant cardiologist at Brighton University Hospital in the UK, Dr Danson relocated to Wollongong in 2017. He has played a leading role in introducing a wide range of new services in the area, including Wollongong's successful cardiothoracic surgery service, coronary atherectomy, transcatheter aortic and mitral valve interventions, left atrial appendage occlusion, and percutaneous closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects.

In addition to consulting in Bowral, Dr Danson also leads the structural heart program in Wollongong. He holds a senior clinical lecturer position at the University of Wollongong, actively participating in clinical research. Furthermore, Dr Danson travels across the country as an industry-sponsored proctor, sharing his expertise in various coronary and structural heart interventional procedures.
