Prof David Coman

Prof David Coman is a highly experienced Paediatrician based in Woolloongabba, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. With a focus on General Paediatrics, Metabolic Medicine, Clinical Genetics, and more, he is widely recognized for his expertise in syndrome diagnosis, chromosome abnormalities, developmental delay and intellectual impairment, deafness and vision impairments, genetic counselling, antenatal abnormalities, and family history of genetic diseases.

Prof Coman obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degrees from the prestigious University of Queensland in 1995. Since then, he has gained extensive clinical exposure while holding various training positions in Brisbane, Rockhampton, Melbourne, the United Kingdom, and Ireland. These experiences have given him a broad perspective on General Paediatrics, Neonatology, Clinical Genetics, and Metabolic Medicine.

After completing his General Paediatric Training under the supervision of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2005, Prof Coman pursued sub-specialty training, further honing his skills and knowledge. In 2007, he was awarded a Master of Philosophy degree from the University of Queensland for his outstanding research work.

As the Medical Director of Paediatrics at The Wesley Hospital, Prof Coman continues to engage in research activities. He is currently involved in multiple projects focused on disease discovery, improving diagnostic testing, and developing effective treatments for children with Inherited Genetic Disorders. His dedication to innovative research has contributed significantly to the advancement of medical knowledge in his field.

In addition to his clinical and research contributions, Prof Coman is committed to teaching and mentorship. He actively participates in the education of medical students and paediatric trainees, holding academic appointments at The University of Queensland, Griffith University, and Bond University.
