Chris Merry is an experienced Associate Professor with a specialization in cardiothoracic and transplant surgery. After completing his undergraduate degree at Melbourne University, Chris received postgraduate training at prestigious hospitals in Australia including St Vincent's, Alfred, and Austin. He then completed an aortic surgery fellowship at the Austin Hospital and went on to serve as a consultant cardiothoracic surgeon since 2008.
Chris served as a consultant in Melbourne for three years before moving to Western Australia to work as a clinical lead for lung cancer surgery and cardiothoracic transplant surgeon at Royal Perth and Fiona Stanley hospitals in 2010. In 2022, he returned to Alfred Hospital as Deputy Director of Cardiothoracic and Transplant Surgery.
Chris has a keen interest in all aspects of lung cancer surgery, particularly minimally invasive (VATS) lung resection, including early recovery after surgery programs. He also specialises in heart transplantation, LVAD insertion, mitral valve repair, aortic valve replacement, atrial fibrillation surgery, arterial coronary revascularization, and aortic procedures.
Chris currently holds an Associate Professorship at Notre Dame University and teaches and examines medical students at Monash University. He is also on the Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
Chris Merry brings an extensive range of multidisciplinary clinical and academic experience and has a focus on continuous learning and ongoing research in his field.
