Dr Chris Wellard

Dr Chris Wellard is a Psychiatrist with a primary focus on General Adult Psychiatry, Depression, Anxiety, and Mood Disorders. He completed his medical training at the University of Sydney and developed a passion for Psychiatry while working as a country doctor in rural and remote Queensland. Dr Wellard furthered his expertise by completing his Fellowship through the Royal Australian New Zealand College of Psychiatry in Newcastle.

With extensive experience in various psychiatric settings, including James Fletcher Hospital and Mater Psychiatric Unit, Dr Wellard has worked in acute inpatient settings, psychiatric emergency, community outreach, forensic psychiatry, homeless outreach, indigenous psychiatry, and general hospital psychiatry. He offers comprehensive psychiatric assessment and management for patients over 18 years of age.

Dr Wellard's approach to mental health extends beyond the biological factors contributing to illness. He recognizes the importance of addressing the underlying psychological aspects that often play a significant role. Through his compassionate and patient-centered approach, he aims to provide holistic care that addresses both the biological and psychological factors contributing to mental health struggles.

It is important to note that Dr Wellard is not an authorised prescriber of stimulants, and as a result, he does not see patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). Additionally, he does not see patients who are covered under work cover.
