Dr Anthony Camuglia

Dr Anthony Camuglia is an exceptionally skilled interventional cardiologist specialising in the field of structural heart disease, particularly heart valve disease. He is based in Rockhampton, Queensland, Australia, and is primarily affiliated with the Princess Alexandra Hospital and The Wesley Hospital. With extensive experience in coronary procedures, Dr Camuglia is adept at performing both acute and elective coronary interventions. In addition, he has expertise in structural heart disease interventions, including the percutaneous management of aortic valve disease.

Dr Camuglia obtained his medical degree with first-class honors from Monash University in Melbourne before pursuing post-graduate training. He completed his internal medicine training at The Alfred Hospital, Melbourne, followed by advanced cardiology training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and The Prince Charles Hospital, both located in Brisbane.

Throughout his career, Dr Camuglia has been actively involved in clinical research and has made significant contributions to the field of cardiology. His research findings have been published in various esteemed peer-reviewed journals, and he has also presented his work at national and international cardiac meetings.

Notably, he was part of a research team whose work on transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) was published in Heart, Lung and Circulation, demonstrating comparable clinical outcomes to open aortic valve surgery with reduced in-patient hospital stays. In addition, he contributed to a prospective clinical study on ultrasound guidance for vascular access in patients undergoing coronary angiography via the transradial approach, which was published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.

In his professional role, Dr Camuglia serves as a Staff Specialist at Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he is an integral part of the acute angioplasty service for the emergency treatment of heart attacks. He is also a valued member of the TAVR team. Additionally, he holds the position of Senior Lecturer in Medicine at the University of Queensland, where he contributes to the training of medical students, junior doctors, and trainee cardiologists.
