Professor Steven Boyages is a senior Endocrinologist with a unique background as a clinician-manager. He currently works in the Department of Endocrinology at Westmead Hospital and was previously the Director of the department. He has also served as the CEO of the Sydney West Area Health Service and the Foundation Chief Executive of the Clinical Education and Training Institute (CETI) of NSW. Steven has also held professorial appointments at the University of Sydney and the University of Western Sydney.
As a clinician, Steven previously served as the Director of Diabetes and Endocrinology at Westmead Hospital from 1990 to 1999. He made significant contributions in understanding thyroid hormone deficiency, developing prevention strategies in iodine deficient communities, and defining the impact of Growth Hormone excess and deficiency in adults. Steven has also worked on developing innovative population health models of care for people with diabetes.
Steven continues to carry out research in the domain of chronic disease prevention and management. He previously served as the foundation director of the Centre for Research and Clinical Policy in NSW Health, where he established the Priority Health Programs, doubled the Research Infrastructure Grants Program, and established the Quality Branch of NSW Health. Steven's current interests include the application of health technology to the delivery of healthcare and the development of IT applications that add value to the enterprise, to the community, and to the patient.
Steven's expertise also lies in organisational design and clinical care models. He has successfully developed web-based business information tools and innovative models of organisational design to monitor enterprise in real-time. As a clinician, Steven's chief interest lies in providing the best possible care to patients, their carers, and the communities he serves.
