Dr Sidney Lo

Dr Sidney Lo is a very experienced interventional cardiologist based in Liverpool, Sydney, Australia. With extensive training and international recognition, Dr Lo has made significant contributions to the field of interventional cardiology throughout his career.

Dr Lo graduated with honours from the University of Sydney in 1988 and completed his internship and residency at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He then undertook cardiology training at different hospitals in Australia, including the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne and the Royal North Shore Hospital. Dr Lo further completed an interventional cardiology fellowship at Stanford University Medical Centre from 1997 to 1998 and worked as a staff attending interventional cardiologist until April 2000.

Throughout his career, Dr Lo has served as an investigator in multiple international multicentre clinical trials and has been a consultant to TransVascular Inc. He played a role in the development of the PICVA and PICAB procedures and has expertise in brachytherapy, having participated in the INHIBIT Study. Dr Lo is particularly renowned for his expertise in chronic total occlusion percutaneous coronary intervention (CTO-PCI) and has published numerous papers on the topic. He is currently the director of the Asia Pacific CTO Club and is recognized globally as a leading expert in CTO-PCI.

In terms of leadership roles, Dr Lo served as the director of the Coronary Unit at Liverpool Hospital from 2000 to 2013 and has since been the Senior Staff Cardiologist and Director of Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratories at the same hospital. He has been actively involved in the organizing committee of the ANZET (Australia and New Zealand Endovascular Therapies) meeting annually and has been the convener of the Echocardiography in Physiology and Intensive Care (EPIC) scientific meeting since 2006. Dr Lo also convenes other scientific meetings such as ANZCTO, ANZCCT, Action day, and Crossroads.

Outside of his clinical work, Dr Lo holds various positions within the professional medical community. He is an active member of the interventional council of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, where he serves as the NSW representative and secretary. Additionally, Dr Lo has served as Faculty at international conferences including TCT, EuroPCR, CCT, and more. He possesses vast experience in procedural areas such as PTMV, BAV, ASD/PFO closure procedures and leads the Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) program at Liverpool Hospital.
