Dr Sarah Murgatroyd is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in shoulder, upper limb, elbow, hand, and paediatric surgeries. She provides specialized care for children's orthopaedic conditions as well as injuries and degenerative conditions in both children and adults affecting the hand, wrist, shoulder, and elbow. Dr Murgatroyd offers her expertise in guiding patients through the best course of treatment for their individual needs, ranging from non-operative measures to surgical intervention.
Dr Murgatroyd graduated from the University of London in 2004 and began her career in the UK before completing her Orthopaedic training in New Zealand. She obtained her specialist qualification from the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2015 and furthered her training in Upper Limb Surgery at Macquarie University in Sydney and Princess Alexandra in Brisbane in 2016.
With a strong interest in paediatric orthopaedic surgery, Dr Murgatroyd completed a year of subspecialty training at Southampton Children's Hospital in 2017. She then worked as a Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon before returning to Brisbane in 2019 to take up a public appointment at Redcliffe Hospital.
Drawing on her extensive experience working in high-volume trauma centers for both children and adults worldwide, Dr Murgatroyd is well-equipped to provide assessment and treatment for sports, home, and work-related injuries. Her expertise extends to the treatment of upper and lower limb conditions, including hip dysplasia, clubfoot, cerebral palsy, perthes, leg alignment, walking issues, and general paediatric conditions.
Dr Murgatroyd also performs specialty procedures of the upper limb such as elbow and wrist arthroscopy, shoulder replacement, elbow replacement, wrist and small joints of the hand replacement, elbow stabilizations, tendon transfers, nerve decompressions, and fracture treatment. She actively participates in teaching and training medical students, junior doctors, and training registrars through her membership in the Australian Orthopaedic Association and the New Zealand Orthopaedic Association.
