Dr. Ranjini Rao is a highly qualified Consultant Psychiatrist with over 19 years of experience in mental health and addiction psychiatry. She attained her medical degree in India in 2002 and completed her psychiatry training in the UK, where she obtained advanced certification in Addiction Psychiatry.
Ranjini worked for eight years as a Consultant Psychiatrist with the Specialist Substance Misuse Service in the UK, where she gained extensive clinical knowledge in the integrated care of complex patients with mental illness and addiction disorders. During her tenure, she played an active role in developing Provision of Addiction Services and Policies in conjunction with the Welsh Assembly Government. She was also the elected chair of the Addictions Faculty of the Wales Royal College of Psychiatrists and was elected a Fellow of the College in 2020.
After relocating to Australia, Ranjini attained her Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatry in 2021 and joined the Barwon Health Mental Health Service and Specialist Pain service as a Consultant Psychiatrist in the same year. She is also the Local Director of psychiatry training at Barwon Health and is passionate about education and training.
Currently practicing at The Geelong Clinic, Ranjini offers inpatient and outpatient assessments and management of patients with mental illness. She believes in a pragmatic, collaborative, and holistic approach to patient care. Ranjini ensures open and honest communication with patients, their families, and referrers throughout the treatment process.
Ranjini is based in the Geelong area and enjoys yoga and jewellery designing in her free time.
