A/Prof Payal Saxena is a highly esteemed Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist, currently holding appointments at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Prince of Wales Private Hospital, and The Chris O'Brien LifeHouse. With a primary practicing suburb in Newtown, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, she offers her expertise in the field of gastrointestinal disorders.
Dr Saxena has an impressive list of qualifications, including a Bachelor of Engineering with Honours (BE Hons), a Master of Biomedical Engineering (M Biomed E), and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours (MBBS Hons). She completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery with Honours at Flinders University in 2004 and subsequently became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2011. Dr Saxena further enhanced her knowledge and skills through a Research and Clinical Fellowship in GI Advanced Therapeutics at The Johns Hopkins University from 2012 to 2014.
Prior to her distinguished medical career, Dr Saxena pursued her passion for biomedical engineering, obtaining a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours from the University of New South Wales in 2000. She then pursued a Masters in Biomedical Engineering at the same institution from 1996 to 2000. Her unique combination of medical and engineering qualifications allows her to take a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Dr Saxena has a keen interest in various aspects of Gastroenterology. She specialises in endoscopic ultrasound, pancreatic cancer screening, ERCP, and advanced resection techniques for early upper and lower gastrointestinal cancer. Additionally, she is well-versed in colonoscopy, colon polyps, and subepithelial tumors, including endoscopic submucosal dissection. Dr Saxena is also proficient in performing endoscopic peroral myotomy (POEM) for achalasia and spastic esophageal disorders.
Throughout her career, Dr Saxena has published numerous research papers and has been invited to present at national and international conferences. She serves as an editorial reviewer for esteemed publications such as Endoscopy, Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and Digestive Diseases and Sciences. Dr Saxena is deeply committed to both postgraduate teaching and ongoing research.
