In 2003, Dr Vasey received a promotion to Reader at the University of Glasgow. During his tenure, he also served as the Director of the West of Scotland Clinical Trials Unit from 2001 to 2004. Under his leadership, the unit was honored with the Alpha* award, the highest distinction bestowed by Cancer Research UK.

In 2004, Dr Vasey relocated to Australia, where he became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in March 2005. He assumed positions of Associate Professor with the University of Queensland and Honorary Associate with the University of Sydney.

Dr Vasey's research interests predominantly encompass women's and genitourinary cancers. He has held significant roles within the medical community, including the chairmanship of the Scottish Gynaecologic Cancer Trials Group. Additionally, he has served as an executive board member on various UK national genitourinary and gynaecologic cancer trials national steering groups.

Another notable achievement is his role as the inaugural author of the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) guidelines for the treatment of ovarian cancer. Dr Vasey's extensive research efforts have resulted in the publication of more than 200 books, peer-reviewed journals, and conference proceedings.

Presently, Dr Vasey practices with the ICON group, where he serves as a visiting senior medical oncologist at the Wesley Hospital in Brisbane. He also regularly consults at St Andrew's Private Hospital in Ipswich.
