A/Prof Nicole McCarthy is a Medical Oncologist specialising in the field of oncology. She is based in Auchenflower, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Dr McCarthy obtained her medical degree with Honors from the University of Queensland in 1990. She completed her internal medicine and medical oncology training in Brisbane and received her Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1998.
Dr McCarthy's passion for academic development led her to join the National Cancer Institute's Medical Oncology Fellowship program in Bethesda, Maryland, USA from 1998 to 2001. During her fellowship, she focused on clinical trials and translational research, particularly investigating new drug treatments for breast cancer, including inflammatory breast cancer and anti-angiogenesis agents. Her dedication to advancing her knowledge in cancer research led her to complete a Masters in Health Sciences in Clinical Research through Duke University.
Throughout her career, Dr McCarthy has made significant contributions to the field of oncology. She spent two years in Auckland, where she was awarded the Breast Cancer Research Trust Fellowship Grant. She returned to Brisbane in January 2006 and has since dedicated her work to clinical trials research.
Dr McCarthy's expertise and commitment to research have been recognized through her involvement in numerous grants, including the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the Queensland Cancer Council. Her work has also been published in esteemed medical journals.
In addition to her clinical and research work, Dr McCarthy holds the position of Associate Professor in Medicine with the University of Queensland since September 2009.
