Dr Maitham Mathlum is a highly skilled and experienced radiation oncologist, currently practicing at Icon Cancer Centre Geelong in Victoria, Australia. He specialises in the treatment of various types of cancer using radiation therapy. Dr Mathlum obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree from Kufa University in 1989.
After completing his medical degree, Dr Mathlum pursued further training in oncology in New Zealand. In 2007, he achieved Fellowship status with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR), solidifying his expertise in the field. Dr Mathlum is a distinguished member of several leading cancer trial groups, including the Trans Tasman Oncology Group (TROG), the European Oncology Trial Group (EORTC), and the Faculty of Radiation Oncology Genitourinary Group (FROGG).
Throughout his extensive career, Dr Mathlum has shown a remarkable dedication to clinical trials and research. He has been a pioneer in conducting immunotherapy clinical trials for prostate and head and neck cancers and is currently engaged in research on nanoparticle technology in collaboration with RMIT University. Additionally, Dr Mathlum has participated in numerous clinical trials and has served as a Principal Investigator for various international and Trans-Tasman trials focused on gastrointestinal, prostate, skin, melanoma, and head and neck cancers.
Aside from his role in private practice, Dr Mathlum also serves as the Director of Training at the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists. His expertise lies in the use of advanced techniques such as intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) and stereotactic radiation therapy. His comprehensive clinical experience covers a wide range of solid tumor malignancies, with specific interests in head and neck, breast, prostate, gastrointestinal, and skin cancers.
