Dr Laeeq Malik

Dr Laeeq Malik is a highly skilled and experienced medical oncologist specialising in the treatment of various cancers. He is currently practicing at Icon Cancer Centre Canberra, located in Bruce, Australian Capital Territory, Australia. Dr Malik completed his physician and specialist oncology training in Australia before pursuing a two-year research fellowship in advanced oncology drug development at the University of Texas in the United States.

During his fellowship in San Antonio, Dr Malik had the privilege of being mentored by Professor Steve Weitman, a renowned expert in the field. This mentorship greatly influenced Dr Malik's approach to delivering patient-centered care and sparked his passion for clinical research.

Dr Malik has a strong background in clinical research, particularly in conducting early-phase clinical trials. He has served as a local principal investigator and co-principal investigator on various studies. Currently, he holds the position of Director of Medical Oncology Clinical Trials at Canberra Hospital. Dr Malik has also collaborated with scientists from the University of Canberra and Australian National University on several research projects. He is actively involved in advancing the understanding and treatment of cancer through his contributions as a reviewer for numerous oncology journals.

With over 35 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, and abstracts at international meetings, Dr Malik has made significant contributions to the field of oncology. He is also a clinical lecturer at the Australian National University, where he teaches and mentors medical students in clinical skills and research. Furthermore, Dr Malik supervises the medical oncology trainee teaching program at Canberra Hospital and has successfully mentored junior doctors in completing their specialty training.

In addition to his role at Icon Cancer Centre, Dr Malik serves as a staff specialist in medical oncology at Canberra Hospital. He also visits Calvary Hospital, National Capital Private Hospital, and South East Regional Hospital as a visiting medical oncologist. This diverse clinical experience has allowed Dr Malik to develop expertise in various solid tumor malignancies. His special clinical interests include early-phase clinical trials, breast cancer, prostate cancer, genitourinary cancer, testicular cancer, bladder cancer, and renal cancer.
