A/Prof Kerry Taylor is an accomplished clinical haematologist at Icon Cancer Centre South Brisbane and holds the position of Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Queensland. With a primary focus on malignant blood disorders, he specialises in myeloma, leukaemia, lymphoma, myeloproliferative disorders, and myelodysplastic syndromes.

A/Prof Taylor's educational background includes training at the University of Melbourne, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, and the Alfred in Melbourne. He also pursued postgraduate work in Baltimore and Houston in the United States, where he played a pioneering role in developing supportive care approaches in autologous transplantation and utilizing molecular techniques to analyze cell lineage in leukaemia.

Upon his return to Australia, A/Prof Taylor made significant contributions to the research and management of malignant blood disorders at local, state, and national levels. He served as the director of haematology at the Mater Hospital and established a molecular genetic laboratory to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of malignant blood diseases. Working alongside Dr Robyn Rodwell, he established Queensland’s first Cord Blood Bank in 1995, expanding treatment options for patients who require stem cell transplantation. Furthermore, A/Prof Taylor collaborated with Dr Tim Hughes (Adelaide) in a pivotal international study that changed the management approach for Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia, involving the use of Glivec (New England Journal of Medicine, 2003 and 2006).

A/Prof Taylor boasts extensive research experience and is actively involved in numerous trials examining novel therapies for multiple myeloma, lymphoma, leukaemia, and myelodysplastic syndrome.

Previously, A/Prof Taylor held the position of chairman of the HOCA Research Centre, now Icon Cancer Foundation, until March 2010. He has also contributed significantly to the field on a national scale, serving as President of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand. Additionally, he has held key administrative roles within the Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group, The Royal Australasian College of Physicians, and the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia.

A/Prof Taylor's expertise and accomplishments were further recognized when he was appointed the Carl de Gruchy Orator at Blood 2018, the joint Annual Scientific Meeting of the Haematology Society of Australia and New Zealand, Australian and New Zealand Society of Blood Transfusion and Thrombosis, and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand.
