A/Prof John Ireland

A/Prof John Ireland is an Orthopaedic Surgeon based in Sydney, Australia. He obtained his medical degree from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in 1980 and was awarded the Foundation Medallist in Medicine. He completed his Fellowship in Orthopaedics from the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 1990 and received another fellowship from the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 1994. A/Prof Ireland also underwent specialized training in Joint Replacement surgery at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital in the UK.

A/Prof Ireland has extensive experience in adult reconstructive and replacement surgery, with a particular focus on joint replacement and revision surgery of the hip, knee, and shoulder. He has performed over 4000 joint replacements using validated and recognized prostheses. A/Prof Ireland emphasizes a holistic approach to patient care and strives for optimal outcomes by incorporating minimally invasive techniques when appropriate.

Throughout his career, A/Prof Ireland has held various positions at hospitals in Sydney, including Nepean Public Hospital, Penrith, Campbelltown Public Hospital, and Liverpool Public Hospital. He served as the Head of the Orthopaedic Department and Chairman of the Whitlam Joint Replacement Centre at Fairfield Hospital. Currently, he works as a Visiting Medical Officer at Campbelltown Private Hospital and holds the position of Associate Professor of Orthopaedics at the Graduate school of Medicine, University of Wollongong.

A/Prof Ireland has published numerous articles and presented at various conferences, covering topics such as joint replacements, hip and thigh injuries, and improving blood transfusion practices.
