A/Prof James Wong

Associate Professor James Wong is a distinguished cardiologist and a vital member of the John Fawkner Cardiology team. Based at the John Fawkner Private Hospital for several years, he has played a key role in providing comprehensive cardiac care to patients in the north-west metropolitan region. A/Prof Wong studied medicine and surgery at the University of Melbourne, graduating with honors in 1985. He pursued his interest in cardiology through a fellowship at the Royal Melbourne Hospital and a PhD in vascular biology at the Baker Medical Research Institute, which was supported by a National Heart Foundation scholarship. He also completed an advanced cardiac imaging fellowship in the cardiovascular imaging laboratory at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Ohio, USA. A/Prof Wong has an impressive track record of research excellence. He was awarded first prizes in multiple research awards including the Advanced Fellows' Research Award (Cleveland Clinic 1997 and 1998) and the Ohio Chapter of the ACC Young Investigators Award in 1997. His research on ultrasound-facilitated gene therapy was also recognized with the Young Investigators Award of the American Society of Echocardiography in 1998. Despite his notable achievements, A/Prof Wong takes pride in being a general cardiologist who can address a wide range of cardiac conditions.
