Dr James McLean is an orthopaedic surgeon based in Dulwich, Adelaide. He has extensive qualifications, including a Master of Surgery (MS) with a thesis on the management of complex wrist injuries from the University of Adelaide. Dr McLean holds a Bachelor of Medicine & Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the same institution. He is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and a Fellow of the Australian Orthopaedic Association (FAOrthA). Dr McLean also has a Queen's Commission 2nd Lieutenant from the Royal Military College of Australia, where he obtained multiple diplomas and a certificate in business management.
Dr McLean specialises in orthopaedic surgery, with a focus on the hand, trauma-fracture, elbow, shoulder, and wrist. His special interests lie in shoulder and upper limb surgery, arthritis, trauma and sports injuries, joint replacement surgery, and arthroscopic and minimally-invasive surgery.
Throughout his career, Dr McLean has made significant contributions to the field through his publications and book chapters. He has authored chapters on scaphoid anatomy and reconstruction techniques for fractures of the proximal ulna and radial head. Dr McLean has published various articles in renowned journals, covering topics such as cable-augmented scapholunate reconstruction, pronator teres-sparing volar approach for osteosynthesis of midshaft diaphyseal radius fractures, and modified ulnar translocation technique for giant cell tumors of the distal radius.
