Dr Helen Buntain is a Paediatric Respiratory Physician with a focus on managing lung disorders in children, including asthma, cough, chest infections, and airway lesions. Her expertise lies in diagnosing airway lesions and structural abnormalities through flexible bronchoscopy.
Dr Buntain completed her Bachelor of Medicine / Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Queensland in 1993. She began her paediatric training at the Royal Children's Hospital in Brisbane in 1996 and received the FRACP examination medal for Paediatrics in 1998. To further specialise, she undertook a Clinical Fellowship in Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and obtained her PhD in cystic fibrosis during her subspecialty training.
In 2003, Dr Buntain was awarded her FRACP in paediatrics, followed by the completion of her specialist training in respiratory medicine in 2004. Her PhD was awarded in 2006, solidifying her expertise in the field.
Dr Buntain joined the Royal Children's Hospital as a Staff Medical Specialist in 2007 and started her practice at The Wesley Hospital in 2014.
As an active researcher, Dr Buntain is involved in ongoing clinical research focused on cough in children. She is a member of esteemed societies such as the Australasian College of Physicians, the Thoracic Society of Australia, the Australian Paediatric Respiratory Group, the American Thoracic Society, and the Australian Medical Association.
