Dr Clair Whelan

Dr Clair Whelan is a highly skilled Consultant Urological Surgeon who has been living and working in Orange for the past decade. She completed her medical degree at the University of Newcastle and developed a strong connection to the Central West region early on in her career. Dr Whelan's first Urology training post was in Orange, and she went on to complete her training in prestigious hospitals across NSW, as well as in Adelaide. After starting her consultant career in Adelaide, she eventually returned to Orange with her husband and three daughters to settle in the region she had grown to love.

Since returning to Orange, Dr Whelan has been passionate about introducing new procedures and services that benefit her patients. She has successfully pioneered new techniques for treating urinary incontinence and laser stone surgery, and has set up a local Urodynamics service to support patients with complex continence issues. Dr Whelan's commitment to delivering high-quality care extends beyond her clinical work -- she also serves as the current Director of Surgery and a former Executive Medical Director at Orange Health Service.

As someone who believes in the power of leadership to effect positive change, Dr Whelan is deeply invested in building up her fellow clinicians as champions for organisational change. In particular, she is passionate about advancing the role of surgeons as leaders within hospital systems. Dr Whelan is a testament to how dedication, skill, and a strong sense of community can come together to create a thriving healthcare environment.
