Dr Hair obtained his Bachelor of Science degree from Deakin University in 1994. Following this, he pursued his medical education and graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Adelaide in 2000. He further specialised in Gastroenterology and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2009.
