His areas of interest include hip and knee replacement surgery, anterior cruciate ligament and arthroscopic knee surgery, as well as orthopaedic trauma. Dr Clout has been recognized for his contributions to the field, including awards such as "Trends in incidence of atypical femoral fracture and bisphosphonate therapy" and "Ten Year Results of a Match Cohort Comparing Oxidized Zirconium and Cobalt-Chrome Femoral Components for Total Knee Arthroplasty", presented at various scientific meetings.

With a commitment to improving patient outcomes, Dr Clout has also conducted research on topics such as cyclic testing of a modified pullout suture repair technique, flexor tendonitis and rupture associated with distal radial locking plates, and the management of staphylococcal prosthetic joint infection.
