Anannya is a highly skilled General Surgeon with an exceptional dedication to providing the best possible surgical outcomes for her patients. Born in the UK and raised in Australia, she obtained her medical degree in 2005 with a distinction in Surgery from the University of Otago. Anannya's journey as a surgeon began in reputable tertiary training centres in Australia, including The Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, Royal Melbourne Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, and Monash Hospitals. She specialises in breast surgery and has completed specialisation in treating benign and malignant conditions of the breast, including oncoplastic and reconstruction techniques. Her training includes accreditation from BreastSurgANZ and post-fellowship subspecialty training at Robina Oncoplastic Breast Unit, Gold Coast, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse, and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, Sydney. Furthermore, she is selected to complete a Royal Australasian College of Surgeons funded European oncoplastic fellowship with Dr Krishna Clough, Paris, and Professor Mike Dixon, in Edinburgh.
Anannya's passion for research and seeking to improve outcomes for patients is exemplary. She holds a PhD from the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre in collaboration with the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute (WEHI) on the mechanism of tumour metastasis, evasion, and long-term dormancy, awarded a Cancer Australia project grant, and is an honorary VMO research position with Lifehouse in Sydney. Furthermore, she has won several awards during her career, including the AVANT New Fellow Medical Research Grant, Foundation for Surgery/Medtronic Travelling Fellowship Grant, John Collins Medal, and the Lorne Cancer Research Prize, just to name a few. Anannya has also held various leadership roles, including co-chair of the JMO forum, providing a voice for the direction and rights of junior medical staff early in their training. She has been a teacher and mentor to medical students and surgical trainees and is involved in the selection of future surgeons.
In addition to her medical career, Anannya has an interest in sports, having represented teams at a state and national level in her youth, and creative makeup and fashion ventures as a hobby. Her comprehensive skills and dedication make her an excellent surgeon dedicated to providing the best outcomes for her patients.
