A city of north Tasmania, Launceston is situated right at the junction of the South Esk and North Esk rivers. The city is the 2nd largest populous city in Tasmania and the 5th largest inland city in Australia. The city enjoys a temperate climate. The local government is split between West Tamar Councils, Meander Valley, and Launceston. Being one of the oldest towns in Tasmania, there are several heritage-listed buildings and sites in Launceston, which are often an interest of the tourists.

Launceston Tourism Today, Launceston has become a major tourist centre. Travellers to this city have grown tremendously over the last few years. There are several parks and entertainment zones in the city, including the famous City Park, situated right next to the city centre. The City Park is the place where there is Albert Hall. This park is also renowned for its enclosure for Japanese macaque monkeys. Many people come to see the Launceston General Post Office, which has a unique clock tower. This clock chimes each quarter-hour. The region is also known for its wildlife conservation work.

History of Launceston The first people who had come to the city were primarily nomadic Tasmanians. It is believed that these people were a part of the North Midlands Tribe. It was around 1798 when the first white visitors came to the region. Matthew Flinders and George Bass were sent to this region mainly to explore the possibilities. They are known to land in Port Dalrymple.
