Dr. Vivek Chowdhury is an accomplished ophthalmologist based in Crows Nest, Sydney, Australia. With a special interest in various eye conditions such as dry eyes, macular degeneration, glaucoma, and pterygium, he offers comprehensive medical and surgical care at Crows Nest Eye Surgery.
Dr. Chowdhury holds an outstanding academic record, having completed his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) with honors at the University of Sydney. He furthered his education and pursued a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree at the University of New South Wales, where his research revolved around the development of a bionic eye for blind patients. He was awarded his PhD on 15th December 2005.
Always striving to expand his knowledge and expertise, Dr. Chowdhury completed a research fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard University Medical School, specialising in retinal implant projects. Throughout his career, Dr. Chowdhury has been recognized for his exceptional achievements. He was awarded the Filipic Greer Medal for his outstanding performance in the Advanced Pathology Examination in 2007 and received the Medical Post-Graduate Research Scholarship from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) of Australia. He was also granted the prestigious Travelling Award for Research Training in 2002 by NHMRC.
Dr. Chowdhury has contributed to the medical community through an impressive array of peer-reviewed research articles and book chapters. His work includes publications on topics ranging from donor cornea mounting techniques to the evaluation of stimulating electrodes for visual prostheses. He has shared his expertise in visual cortex and extraocular retinal stimulation in a book chapter published by Humana Press.
