Tom is a highly qualified medical professional with extensive training in multiple areas of surgery. He completed his Dental and Medical Degrees with Honours from the University of Glasgow and the University of Aberdeen, respectively, before gaining further general surgical training and achieving the Fellowship in General Surgery (FRCS) from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. Tom had already completed the Fellowship in Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons in London before this.
In 2000, Tom relocated to Melbourne with his wife and completed more training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, culminating in the FRACDS(OMS) in 2003. He has held several public appointments, including at Monash Medical Centre, Dandenong Hospital, The Austin Hospital, St Vincents Hospital, and the Royal Dental Hospital. Furthermore, Tom has been in private practice since 2003, working at his Collins Street practice and a few other branch practices.
Tom is highly active in professional organisations such as the Australasian Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (ANZAOMS) and the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons. For 3 years (2006 - 2009), Tom was on the National Council of ANZAOMS, and in 2011, he chaired the organising committee for the National Conference in Melbourne. Tom regularly attends international and national conferences to stay up-to-date on current practices in his field and has made multiple contributions as a speaker at various conferences, both locally and overseas.
