Dr Sonny Palmer

Dr Sonny Palmer is an accomplished Cardiologist specialising in Coronary and Structural Heart Intervention. With over a decade of experience, he has established himself as a key member of the healthcare community. Currently based in Sale, Victoria, Australia, he serves as the clinical lead for the Structural Heart Program at Knox Private Hospital, where he offers Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) as a new treatment option for patients with Aortic Stenosis.

After completing his degree from The University of Melbourne, Dr Palmer undertook clinical training in Cardiology at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne. He went on to pursue advanced training in Coronary and Structural Heart Intervention at St Vincent’s Hospital and James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough, United Kingdom. His exceptional contributions earned him a Doctorate from The University of Melbourne in 2016, and he received prestigious scholarships from the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) and the National Heart Foundation (NHF).

Dr Palmer is actively involved in clinical research and has supervised numerous higher research degree candidates, FRACP physician trainees, junior doctors, and Doctor of Medicine students. He serves as a proctor and helps train future interventional and structural cardiologists. Dr Palmer has also been involved in pioneering interventional trials. His areas of expertise include Cardiovascular Risk Factor Management, Coronary Angiography & Percutaneous Coronary Intervention, CT Coronary Angiography, Valvular Heart Disease, Balloon Aortic Valvuloplasty, Transcatheter Mitral Valve Repair, Percutaneous Closure of Patent Foramen Ovale, and Atrial Septal Defects.

In addition to his role at Knox Private Hospital, Dr Palmer also practices at The Alfred Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne, and Box Hill Hospital (Eastern Health). His contributions to the healthcare industry have been invaluable, and his skills and expertise have helped many patients with structural heart disease and coronary artery disease.
