A/Prof Rosemary Nixon

Assoc. Prof Rosemary Nixon is a highly respected dermatologist based in Heidelberg, Melbourne, Australia. With over three decades of experience in the field, she is known for her expertise in dermatology, particularly in the treatment of psoriasis. She holds a range of qualifications, including a Bachelor of Science (Honors), Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), Master of Public Health (MPH), Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists (FACD), and Fellow of the Australasian Faculty of Occupational and Environmental Medicine (FAFOEM).

A/Prof Nixon received her dermatology qualification in 1988 and later became a certified occupational physician in 1994, making her the only individual in Australia with qualifications in both specialties. In 1993, she established the Occupational Dermatology Clinic at Monash Medical Centre, where she served as the Head of the Dermatology Unit from 1991 to 2001. Subsequently, she continued her work at the Skin Health Institute, where she founded the Occupational Dermatology Research and Education Centre in 2001.

Upon her return from the United Kingdom in 1989, A/Prof Nixon took charge of organizing the monthly Update meetings for the Faculty, a responsibility she diligently fulfilled for 26 years until 2015. In addition, she dedicated five years as a Censor (examiner) for the Australasian College of Dermatologists and served as the Chair of the Victorian Faculty for two years from 2012.

A/Prof Nixon holds honorary positions as an Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor at Monash University and as a Honorary Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne. She is also an active member of the International Contact Dermatitis Research Group, a prominent international organization focused on contact dermatitis. Her contributions to research have resulted in over 50 published scientific papers.

Recognizing her remarkable achievements and contributions to the medical field, A/Prof Nixon was awarded Membership of the Order of Australia in 2017. She also received The Silver Medal, the highest accolade bestowed by the Australasian College of Dermatologists.

Currently, A/Prof Rosemary Nixon continues to make significant contributions to the field of dermatology as the President of the Skin Health Institute. Her dedication to advancing research, education, and patient care has earned her widespread recognition and respect within the medical community.
