He serves as a director for Foresight Australia, an eye health foundation, and has been involved in enhancing the ophthalmology training program in Phnom Penh, Cambodia since 2013. His efforts, supported by organizations such as RANZCO and the Fred Hollows Foundation, aim to further ophthalmology education and improve eye health services. Additionally, Dr. Mitchell is a visiting lecturer in neuro-ophthalmology and glaucoma, providing essential teaching on glaucoma surgery to local trainees. He also cultivates a relationship with the East Timor Eye Program through regular return visits for teaching and performing surgeries.
