Dr Martine Holford

Dr. Martine Holford is a Pain Medicine Specialist and Anaesthetist who has been working in the medical field for over two decades. She received her medical degree from the University of Queensland in 1996 and completed her anaesthetic training in 2004. It was during her work in acute injury and post-operative pain management that Dr. Holford developed an interest in Pain Medicine. This led her to pursue further training in the subspeciality at the Professor Tess Cramond Pain Management Centre of Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Brisbane in 2005. In 2005, Dr. Holford was awarded the Merit Award for Achievement in the Faculty of Pain Medicine Examinations, following which she was admitted to the Faculty of Pain Medicine early in 2006. She then worked as a Consultant Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital till late 2006 before moving to Sydney where she serves as a consultant anaesthetist and pain specialist at North Shore Private Hospital and St Vincent’s Private Hospital. Dr. Holford is the director of Empower Pain Management Program, which is an intensive multidisciplinary education program for patients living with chronic pain. Additionally, Dr. Holford has a long standing commitment to medical education. She was a member of the Board of Examiners for the Faculty of Pain Medicine and held the role of Head of Anaesthetics at Notre Dame University School of Medicine, Sydney from June 2010 till November 2011. With a focus on spinal pain and the intersection of mind and body in the genesis, perpetuation and management of persistent pain, Dr. Holford has established herself as an expert in the area of Pain Medicine.
