Dr Jay Iyer

Dr Jay Iyer is a highly experienced and skilled Gynaecologist based in Pimlico, Townsville, Queensland, Australia. With a primary focus on gynaecology and pelvic floor surgery, his expertise lies in general gynecology, endocrinology, advanced laparoscopic surgery, prolapse, and incontinence.

Dr Iyer began his medical career in India, where he trained and worked as a Specialist in the Indian Army Medical Corps for 16 years. In 2010, he relocated to Australia and has since become a respected figure in the field. He holds two specialist qualifications from overseas, as well as Fellowships from both the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists UK and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

With a passion for teaching and training young specialists, Dr Iyer directs the Australian Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society. He also runs a two-year fellowship program to train Australian doctors in advanced laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery techniques. As one of the few certified Robotic Surgeons in his field, he utilises the Da Vinci Surgical Robot to perform complex procedures.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Iyer is actively involved in research projects in his areas of expertise. He is a strong advocate for women's health issues in North Queensland, striving to improve access to treatment for patients. Outside of medicine, Dr Iyer is known for his enthusiasm for reading and is a dedicated health advocate. He also indulges his passion for building and driving off-road vehicles.

Dr Iyer will be providing regular Urogynaecology and General Gynaecology services at Ramsay Cairns, working alongside his esteemed colleague Prof Ajay Rane. His dedication to the well-being of his patients and his commitment to training the next generation of specialists make him a valuable asset to the medical community.
