Dr Vicki Avery

Dr Vicki Avery MBChB, BA/BSc, FRACP is a Gastroenterologist and Hepatologist with a broad background in the diagnosis and management of digestive and liver disorders. She completed her medical degree at the University of Auckland in New Zealand, followed by specialist training in gastroenterology and hepatology at Auckland Hospital and North Shore Hospital. She expanded her clinical expertise through a hepatology fellowship at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital. Dr Avery has worked in public hospitals across both New Zealand and Australia, including Middlemore Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, and Redcliffe Hospital. Her clinical practice includes both inpatient and outpatient care, and she has developed considerable experience in multidisciplinary management of complex cases. She is committed to providing comprehensive care that takes into account the medical, nutritional, and lifestyle aspects of gastrointestinal and liver conditions. Her areas of interest include diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, such as gastroscopy and colonoscopy for cancer screening and polyp removal. She also focuses on the management of chronic liver diseases including hepatitis B, cirrhosis, and metabolic-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD). Dr Avery integrates lifestyle-based approaches into treatment plans and works in close collaboration with general practitioners, dietitians, and other allied health professionals to support coordinated care. She maintains an active role in clinical research, particularly in the areas of liver disease and transplantation, and applies current evidence-based practices in her daily work. Dr Avery is dedicated to delivering tailored, patient-centred care that supports long-term health outcomes.
