Dr Jane Mills

Dr Jane Mills is an Australian-trained General Surgeon with sub-specialist expertise in Breast, Endocrine and Melanoma surgery. She treats public patients at the Royal Hobart Hospital and sees private patients at both Calvary Healthcare and Hobart Private Hospital. She also serves as a clinical consultant for BreastScreen Tasmania and is actively involved in surgical education through her teaching roles at the Royal Hobart Hospital and the University of Tasmania Clinical School. Dr Mills graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2007 and began General Surgical training with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010. She completed her general surgical training through the Victoria/Tasmania training program in 2015. Her interest in research began early in her career, and in 2012 she undertook a research fellowship at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon. During this time, she completed a Master of Epidemiology from the University of Queensland. In 2015–2016, she completed a Research Fellowship in Surgical Oncology, during which she earned a Master of Surgery with a focus on novel targeted immunotherapy treatments for melanoma. In 2017, she undertook a clinical fellowship in Breast Cancer and Melanoma Surgery at the University of Toronto, followed by an AAES-accredited Endocrine Surgery Fellowship at the University of Calgary in 2017–2018. She was awarded the Foundation of Surgery Research Scholarship in 2016 and the Hugh Johnson ANZ Chapter ACS Travelling Fellowship in 2017 by the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Dr Mills was born and raised in Hobart and is pleased to be back serving the community where she began her medical journey. She enjoys hiking, running, cycling, gardening, and a range of snow sports during the winter months.
