David Campbell Cowley

Dave is a highly regarded senior Men’s Health physiotherapist known for his reassuring, down-to-earth approach that instills confidence in his patients. With a sharp focus on individual needs, he ensures that men facing bladder, bowel, or sexual health issues receive the expert clinical advice necessary for optimal recovery. He is particularly passionate about helping patients regain their confidence post-prostate surgery, adopting a ‘patient-guided’ philosophy that empowers individuals to actively participate in their care. As the Men's Health Clinical Stream Leader at Active Rehabilitation, Dave has played a pivotal role in the expansion of high-quality Men's Health services. His collaboration with leading urologists and specialists demonstrates his commitment to comprehensive care. Furthermore, his extensive research, including his PhD work with renowned Professor Paul Hodges, has contributed significantly to the understanding of male pelvic floor health. Funded by the NHMRC, this research focuses on various conditions such as incontinence, erectile dysfunction, and rectal prolapse, enabling Dave to translate academic findings into practical, patient-centered care. In addition to his clinical work, Dave has a strong interest in Indigenous Health, having volunteered in remote communities to provide physiotherapy services. His ability to connect with patients during challenging times, including cancer diagnoses, reflects his dedication to both professional and personal growth. Outside of his practice, Dave enjoys engaging in home renovation projects, attending live music events, and playing guitar in a local covers band. His favorite quote, “Be kind whenever possible.
